De aan het eind van de 15de eeuw aangelegde grafkapel, was aanvankelijk het eindpunt van een bedevaartroute langs de nu aan de buitenkant van de kerk opgestelde staties. Ook die staties beelden samen de zeven smarten van Maria uit. In de grafkapel kun je het beeld zien van de gestorven Christus. Aan de rechterwand hangt nog een afbeelding van de laatste statie: het schilderij De graflegging van Christusvan de Antwerpse schilder Theodoor Rombouts (1597-1637).

La chapelle funéraire avec “L’enterrement du Christ”

Construite à la fin du XVe siècle, la chapelle funéraire était à l’origine le point d’arrivée d’un chemin de pèlerinage dont les stations sont aujourd’hui représentées à l’extérieur de l’église. L’ensemble de ces stations représente également les sept douleurs de Marie. Dans la chapelle funéraire, on peut voir l’image du Christ mort. Sur le mur de droite est accrochée une autre image de la dernière station : le tableau La mise au tombeau du Christ du peintre anversois Theodoor Rombouts (1597-1637).

Funeral chapel with Burial of Christ

Built at the end of the 15th century, the burial chapel was initially the terminus of a pilgrimage route past the stations now displayed on the outside of the church. Those stations together also depict the seven sorrows of Mary. In the burial chapel, you can see the image of the deceased Christ . On the right wall hangs another image of the last station: the painting The Entombment of Christ by the Antwerp painter Theodoor Rombouts (1597-1637).
